Zeiss cleaning solutions for scope lenses.
« on: March 06, 2003, 11:41:13 AM »
I recently purchased Zeiss cleaning solutions and pre-moistened cloths from dnrsport.com.  Let me tell you, these solutions are exceptional.  I sprayed the solution on the lenses and then used the pre-moistened cloths to clean them.

I had some water spots on my Leupold Vari-X III 4.5x-14x-50mm and my Nightforce NXS 5.5x-22x-56mm.  This stuff was so great that now my lenses look PERFECT.

I just wanted to pass along this information and ask how you guys clean your lenses and how often?

Zachary,

If at home,  I use a can of compressed air to get the initial grit or abrasive dust from the lens.  In the field,  I use a camera lens quality blower brush.  If there is any heavy film or stain,  I then use the Zeiss cleaner with a lens quality cloth.  When a lite cleaning is all that is necessary from long storage,  then alcohol or water with a lens quality cloth is all that is needed.  Over cleaning or too frequent cleanings are not a good thing.

I would similarly think that over-cleaning would not be a good thing, but I am a little surprised that you have used alcohol.  Then again, I guess that some of the cleaners, perhaps even Zeiss, may contain some percentage of alcohol.

What about canned air?
