Thanks for the complements!! I didn't get any more done on it yet :(  I decided to go with some brass 4-40 screws to hold the trunion clamps on. Also I remembered that I have some 1/16" fuse ( the .070 stuff) So I'm going to use that. Still can't wait to shoot her :blaster: Later, Wes

This could get out of hand very quickly -  for example:

How about a design for the belt-buckle version with asbestos belly-button guard.

CW,

Asbestos is on the OSHA and EPA banned list because it causes cancer.

Use Nomex instead.      :-D

(You're right, this IS gonna get out of hand.)    8)

More ramblings in stainless -  I'm getting to like how it turns.

Foreground:  .50 cal
Background (L->R): Paintball caliber and two .50 cal's.

Don't know yet.  Haven't drilled the fuse hole nor put the trunions on yet.

I plan to make a 3 part 'mould' to make papermache sabots to hold the paint ball.  Flat on the base and concave on the top to hold the paintball - that should do it.

My expectation with this one is that the bore is so short (about 2 calibers or so) that the paint ball will also survive landing.

The 'mould' will be a tube of bore diameter (about 0.69) with two rods - on flat ended and the other convex hemispherical end - used to squeeze the papermache inbetween and eject.

I have found a source for the very small green visco fuse:

http://www.skylighter.com

1mm Cross-Match Visco,  item # GN1010

This is the small diameter fuse like I described above. I emailed the company to verify this before posting.

But (there's always a but), there are a couple of things that should be mentioned.

First, at $13.63 (plus shipping) for 50' this fuse costs about twice as much I usually pay for the standard visco sizes.

Second, Skylighter has a $30 minimum order. Unless you are ordering other items, you would have to buy three rolls of this fuse to meet the minimum.

All that said, this is the ONLY place that I found that sells this fuse after lots of web searching.

If micro is your game, and you want to use the smallest visco available, then this is it.

I know this is an old post. But a while back a member of the group sent me a barrel. I told him I'll send him a pic when I'm done building it. Well finally finished it. Well I figure. I'll post a picture here.

They are all lovely, I'd make one myself but I'd probably have to submit it to the London Proof House :)

I spoke to the Proofmaster there once because I'd heard a rumour he was refusing bronze barrels without a steel liner, he replied, "You can make it out of marzipan for all I care, so long as it passes my test... send it to Birmingham"

On the subject of tiny trunnion bolts, do you have "Model Maker's Specials" over there? All the BA sizes but with the head off the next size down. Makes them look a lot smaller than they really are.

best regards

Squire Robin

It's been TWO months Have you tried yet?
I want to know can you fire a marker ball and in a mortar does it have enough velocity on impact to make (SPLAT!) a mark?  sounds like a neat competition, in a fairly small field.
