What is the Huntsman rated for 100gr or 150gr....or???
« on: October 31, 2005, 09:04:57 AM »
I have the huntsman....second hand.....without instruction booklet.  Will get one from H&R but in the time being, I was wondering what the MAX load is for it???

Had the TC Encore and it was rated for 150gr but did not shoot it at that level.  It like 120gr better....so did I.

Thanks,
Kyle

5Redmna8,

The 24" huntsman has a 100gr max. The 26" I believe has a 150gr max.

For 24" Huntsman. Disregard the 45 caliber part on top, they never brought it out.

Why is the longer barrel rated for a heavier load?  Does the load vary between the Huntsman and the Sidekick?

The Huntsman is rated to 100gr of powder max per my booklet from NEWF.  The Sidekick I believe is rated for 150 gr of powder max.  The Huntsman has a 24" barrel, the Sidelick has a 26" barrel.  That's the differance.

Let me clearify something.  I read the Sidekick came with a magnum barrel, they don't say anything about the maximum charge of powder.  Other manufactors claim magnum barrels will take max loads of 150gr of powder.  NEF does not say that.  At least not in the info I have read.

OK!!  For 2004, the catalog lists only the Sidekick as Magnum if you get the optional 26" barrel.  Then for 2005, the catalog shows both the Huntsman and Sidekick offered only in 26" barrel, not the 24" as in 2004.  However, the Magnum designation is still only for the Sidekick models.  I don't have my Huntsman, yet, so I can't tell you what the Owners Manual has to say about Max Load.  All the above info is from this year's and last year's catalogs.

Perhaps a call to CS is in order, to clear up the question of Max Load.
