rossi single opens on firing

I bought a rossi/brazteck youth model with a .243, 20gage and .22 barel.  we are having some teething problems. We have only shot the 243 so far.  About 50% of the shots the action opens upon firing.  we have tried two deferent factory loads with the same result.  at first i thought is was the the action was not closing fully all the time. So I polished the latch point on the barrel where it rests.  Today when we tried it we made ceratin the the release was fully engaged (felt hard up against the top) before we shot each round.  Same results. Any ideas?  i hate the return to the dealer because I imagine they will want to send it back to Rossi and we would like to use it in deer season.

A gunsmith could fix it even if it needs a part, provideing he/she can get it in time.  Otherwise send it back, no deer is worth possible injury/death to family or friends.  I know, I know....you already thought of these things, but if it's a broken spring that holds the locking block in place, what could you do about it?  Try the 20 gauge barrel, if it's okay then a handicap hunt is better than no hunt at all, kinda like bow hunting with a BOOM!

I hear ya.  Indeed the 20 gage barrel seems to work fine.  The kid is very disapointed.  Called ROSSI today the standard answer is send it to us. 4-6 weeks you get it back.  No you cannot talk to our gunsmiths, no you cannot have it serviced anywhere else without voiding the warenty.  No we will not send you a replacement unless we try to service yours first.   Again 4-6 weeks.  AKA we have your money and you are stuck with us.  So far I am sorry I didnt not go with the NEF.  I hope they make it right.  But lost time is just lost time no making up for that.  Not only that but the gun s not very acurate.  maybe they fix the action and the groups will tighten up.  Still hopefull but not happy.  I have not sent the gun out yet anyone else have experience with this problem

I have heard some from the NEF group and a few as well before about Rossi.  Hate to send it back, but in all honesty, if you can't get your money back for who ever sold it to you, then it's about your best bet. Unless you know a Smith personally, I would think they would charge you well for it. Then again...after shipping and handling back and forth...well you get my drift.
Sorry to hear about your rifle. I am sure they will fix it though, but it will take time. I understand your frusteration. I sent my H&R Ultra receiver back to get fitted for a new barrel, came back to me, I went to cock it and the transfer bar popped out! Needless to say upset is the best decent word I can use. So problems happen with all them sooner or later. But it's nice to get it right the first time, instead of having to deal with the frusteration.

Try yet one other factory load, try lighter, I had a rossi 243 that would open every single time with 100gr bullets and winchester 748 powder, anything else it stayed closed.  Larry
