Safety alert: Rottweil 20 gauge slugs

We shot 20 gauge Rottweil slugs today in our Mossberg 500 and got pressure signs. After the first shot the action could not be opened. I thought it was a fluke, rapped the action and got it open, and examined the gun. It looked OK. The second shot did the same thing, and the shell was stuck in the chamber.

The gun is in good condition and fires Federal slugs just fine. There are no signs of damage to the gun after firing the Rottweils, but I recommend you avoid them.

i used to use them exclusively (smoothbore lugs) when i hunted counties that only allowed shotgun deer hunting.

never ever had a problem with them.  shot them out of an early 70s springfield (coast to coast model) 20 guage pump in 3" and 2 3/4"

shot hundreds of those slugs out of that gun.  they shot and hit well.

In my original post I was referring to the 3" shells. I have since tried the 2 3/4" shells and found no pressure problems in this gun. The spec for these has a lower pressure than the 3" shells.
