Ive got a stream to trap but its too shallow t odrown and too rocky to drive a stake so Im going to use a drag I have a fox grapple on chain and was wondering if that would be enough or should I also attach a weight to the chain just in case.

I've used everything for drags at one time or another railroad tie plates work well also cement blocks, plus wired alot of rocks make sure you wire well with heavy enough wire! The problem with just using fox trag is coon can travel along way down a creek bed without tangeling.Another problem with coon on a drag is once wraped up if they have anything to pull against for leaverage they might be gone.yottey

Id still run a slide out to the water at its deepest point. If you can keep a coon in the water he has more trouble gettin leverage etc.

I am not a big fan of drags. With a limited amount of time and usually runnin in the dark when I get to a set I want to have the critters waitin for me.
Thats just me though---lots of guys really like them

I don't run a lot of drowners myself for coon anymore. Whether dry or water sets, I run an 18" cable with an earth anchor on end of chain on a #11 double jaw, and have had every coon I've caught still waiting for me when I get there to collect the goods. I use a lot of swivels in a short chain. The #11 is tenacious in holding power, and with double jaws I get a nice holding surface with very little room under the jaws for foot damage.
This is almost exclusively what I run now for equipment setup on my foothold coon sets.

ive caught lots of coon using drags in my area they never made it over 10 or 15 ft.except the one that went straight up a tree .

Try putting the drag around a tree or in some brush. This keeps them from going far and the brush will give them something to chew on so there is no damage to them.
