bought a savage 111 in .270 tonight. Has a cheapo scope on it and a detachable magazine and synthetic stock and sling.

$336.56 at wal-mart. i am pretty impressed with that price too. it is my new project gun. i plan on using the texture paint used for fireplaces and etc...the "stone" look...should be cool. i will have to get a better scope sometime but this 3-9x40 should suffice for coyotes and groundhogs for a while

it should come in monday. I will let you guys know how it shoots. if it is anything like my other two savages were, i will be able to write my name at 100 yards with bullet holes.

In .270, you should get fantastic results. I loved every .270 I ever owned. I sold them all to go straight blackpowder, but if I bought another rifle, it would be something in .270  Jack

Don't be suprised if it shoots under an inch!  I've got a 110 in a .270 that shoots very well.........I just hate the Simmons scope.......not very bright, and while it focuses in the middle it's not clear at all on the edges.........I'm thinking a Leupold fixed 4 power is what my .270 needs.........

Matt - Nice rifle, I have just gotten one myself a few weeks ago and used it for elk hunting this year. Make sure the clip works right as mine has a problem picking up the second round from the clip. Savage Arms is sending me a new clip free of charge to see if that solves the problem.
  I found that in my .270 I get the best groupings with either the Federal 150gr Nosler Partition or the Federal Sierra BTSP bullets (less than 1in at 100yds). For some reason mine doesn't like the Remington 150gr CoreLokt (no pattern to speak of), but will shoot the Remington 130gr Corelokt into 2inches at 100yds. I have a feeling the rifle shoots better than I do <G>.
  You can lessen the trigger pull by removing the action from the stock and on the right hand side you will see a 1 1/2in spring steel spring that has a screw at the front. It has click adjustment and I backed mine off about 4 clicks. Puts the pull at about 3lbs now (as opposed to the LAWYER SETTING of about 6lbs <G>). Don't back it off much more than that though as sometimes it will not "set the sear" if the trigger return spring is set too light and this can cause problems.....
  Enjoy your new rifle - great shooter and with the floating bbl, very accurate. Keep us posted as to what ammo works best in yours.
 (gotta get me some reloading dies and try some 110gr bullets for plinking and varmint and stuff )

thanks for all the info guys. this is my third savage, so i know the ins and outs pretty well at this point. the first thing i do is adjust the trigger and then clean it well and put 'er back together and head to the range to watch tiny little groups appear at long ranges.

this one is a project though...the stock is going to be painted and the barrel is going to be replaced my one in .25-06 (the reason i bought it in .270...only the barrel needs replaced for this swap and this is the only one that could do that AND have a drop-out magazine.)
