Most accurate slug gun

Some areas of the US are limited to shotguns and slugs due to various restrictions.

For factory out-of-the-box slug shotguns, what brand do you have, and what is the most accurate one you've ever used?

I'm talking about fully rifled, scope sighted slug guns and really tight groups out to 100 yards.
Remington, Mossberg, Ithaca, Bolt action, pump, semi-auto?

Anyone shoot the new Remington 870 Express Deer gun with the heavy profile cantilever barrel?

What ammo are you using?

For me, it has to be the 20ga H&R/NEF Ultra Slug Hunter LE. Nothing in Remington, Mossberg, Ithaca, SKB, Browning or Savage that I have owned can touch it. It will shoot most everything under 2" at 100 yds and some slugs under 1". I really like the Remington Ultra CoreLokt and Winchester Partition Golds.

I've been shooting and Hunting with A Remington 870 SP.With an elcheepo 1.5x4.5x32 Bantam Scope For about 15 years Now ..
 Can shoot Sub.   1"  Groups with the old style 3" Remington copper solids.   But I switched last fall Due to ,   I can't Find the old style solids anywhere. Having great Luck with the Hornady H2K's  Mostly 1 to 2" Groups @ 100 yards.

Have a friend shooting the new 870 Express like you asked about . He is shooting the 3" Federal Barnes expanders and getting 1" to 1.5" Groups @ 100 yards.

I'm in a dilema on slug guns right now.  

I picked up an older Remington 1100 real cheap recently with a 28" full choke barrel.   I could put a cantilever barrel on it for about $250 or, I could trade it up for the 870 Express super slug gun.  Not sure what I want to do.....    Any advice or suggestions out there?

sk330lc-- Sounds like your friend's 870 with the heavy barrel is a good shooter.  Thanks for the info.

I take it your not into singles? The gun pictured above including a sling was $202 brand new, shoots as good as anything. :wink:

I bought an 1100 for grouse years ago. I added a smoothbore barrel, iron sighted, I think for 49 bucks. I am a rifle hunter, but wanted the "buck"
barrel just in case Orange Co. NY went shotgun. I found this rig to shoot 1" at 50 yards. So I shot a deer with it no problem. Now I believe there are some scoping issues, but I can't believe that rifled barrels are worth
it, particularly since my deer have been mostly shot in the 20 to 60 yard range. Sure the NEF deal is great. Their Huntsman is the best muzzy I have shot for accuracy, but for slugging, an 1100 for me would be hard to beat open sighted. I'd be queezy having not shot the 1100 cantelevered scoped rifled barrel...

i bought a remington 870 super slug and it shoots great i shot a 5 point at 75 yards this year and it dropped in it tracks. hit right where i aimed great gun.

The two most accurate slug guns that I have used and still use are a 20 ga barrel on an Encore frame with a Leupold 6 x 42 scope on it.  It works great from a tree stand.  Is very light and easy to move around with.  My 12 ga is a Savage 210F which is probably the most accurate slug gun that I have shot.  It wears a Weaver fixed 4 power scope, is larger an a tad heavier but speaks with authority.  
Two other slug guns that I own and see lot of use are two 20 ga model 1100 Remington with Hasting Cantilever scope barrel and Leupold 4 x scope on them.  They will not shoot quite as accurately as the Encore but my grand daughters handle them better in the tree stand and I don't let them shoot beyond 100 yards.  My starting slug gun was a Mossberg Trophy slugester, which I still have and it often is the gun which gets loaned to relatives who want to hunt with me.  The Mossberg has a cantilever scope mount and a Weaver 4X scope on it.  All of my slug guns have fully rifled barrels and I buy Winchester saboted slugs in large quantities.
I like the Encore and Savage the best because they are most like a rifles and have great trigger pulls.  If the Remingtons and Mossberg had rifle triggers I believe that there would be little difference in the field.  Pump guns like the Mossberg do tend to make more sound in a deer stand that I normally like to hear but shoot just fine.

I have a Benelli Mk2 that I use a slug barrel on, with a Kahles 1.1-4.5x scope. I'm not sure what kind of groups it will shoot, mainly because I think such bench shooting is over rated... but I usually hit 10 out of 10 clay pigeons or beer cans at 100 yards. The Benelli is a beautiful firearm, and the cycle time is something to behold.

For overall accuracy, there's probably more variance between individual guns in the Encores, Savage 210s, and the NEF Ultra slug guns that there are between the models. Of the truly accurate slug guns (1" or less groups at 100yds) I've seen, none were anything other than those three. Not even the $1500+ customs are reliably as accurate. That said, accuracy of that magnitude is rarely necessary for hunting, as slugs lose velocity so quickly that by the time you're at a distance that the difference between a 1 MOA gun and a 2 MOA gun is important a slug is useless. If I were going for a really good slug gun on a budget, I'd probably go for the NEF Ultra. Otherwise, I'd probably just get a good rifled barrel for whatever shotgun I had and use that when I needed to shoot slugs.

I have 2 rifled barrel shotguns. The MOST accurate is an Ithaca Deerslayer II. Permanetly attached,heavy weight barrel with a 1.5 to 6 scope. I have shot Rem copper solids and Hornady H2K into less than an inch at times. I also have a Rem870 with (beleive it or not) a Mossberg after market barrel made for the 870. It is also quite accurate, usually between 1.5 and 2 " with the same slugs. The Lightfield and Federal Barnes also shoot about the same in it. It is kinda funny too. I can look down the bore and see a small mark in the barrel where the barrel was stamped with Mossgerg Logo. Nevertheless, it shoots good and was somewhere around $110.00 when I bought it.

Browning A-Bolt in 12ga. if you can find one. Mine wears a Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 and shots sub i" 3-shot groups at 100yds. with winchester sabot slugs. It shoots far more accurate than my canti-levered 11-87 (2 to 2 1/2" 3-shot groups).

Yes Browning and Mossberg has a good bolt action slug gun. They are both are top of the line grouping slug guns. VM
