has anyone tested FFF vs FF in the loose powder 777. I have been using FFF 777 but recently noticed the store now only stocks the FF version of 777.

I have never tested the two types side by side. I went with FFF after e-mailing Hodgdon a few years back, asking why FFF produced more velocity. Here is what Mike Daly of Hodgdon had to say in response to my e-mail.

If you want to get the very fastest velocity possible, 3F is the way to go.

I use 3F T7 cuz I can use a little less of it to get the same velocity, they both cost the same, just $$ sense. It's just as accurate in 3 different inlines.

I tested both side by side in my encore. 105 grains of 2f will group about 1 1/2 inches. 3f shrinks to about 3/4 inch. I find it easier to measure as well.

I got roughly the same results as upnorth by switching to 3f. Ironically it was by accident!! I dropped my 2f load by ten grains and my group size dropped also. Good luck!!
