I realize this didn't work out last year........my situation is different this year, is it to early to try and stir up some interest for a weekend of camping, BSing and hog hunting?

We started down this path last year and it didn't work out......the season opens Jan 18th and goes through the end of Feb........hopefully my new job will allow me several weekends to hunt this season......

I'd be interested.  I've got a decent Kifaru 8-man tipi (4 folks comfortably) with a woodburning stove to keep things toasty.

Tell me more.  I don't mind hiking a bit and enjoy campfire whiskey sippin' almost as much as the hunt these days.

Well.....Big South Fork......is near Cumberland gap......the gap Daniel Boone found to reach the "new territories".  It's near where Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia come togather......It's steep east coast mountains.....not sure of the elevation, but guess in the 4000 to 5000 foot range.......not big by west coast standards, but very steep.........think it's to early to scout?  The trees will be changing color soon, and it's one of the prettiest places in the east.......

I'm still thinking about hogs . I've spent some time on the east end of norris lake fishing and just love the place .

Also done alot of hiking in DB Nat. forest and yes the hills are STEEP so count me in  :grin:  :grin:  :grin:

I'd love to go. My father and I have been talking about going on a hog hunt and a black bear hunt for a while now. I don't have any vacation or personal time left though! :cry: I could get a weekend off, but driving from Central New York would take to long for a weekend hunt. :(

We put in for them at the beginning of March, but our vacations (and personal time) don't start again until the first "full week" of May. believe me....I want to go wild boar (and black bear) hunting in the worst way!

I looked into the Cumberland Mountain Hunting Lodge, I just haven't made any plans!

One thing that makes Tennessee nice is that my uncle (my dads brother) lives in Concord, NC. He works for Pass & Seymour and transferred down there in 1993. My uncle, my father and I haven't hunted together since the fall of 1992. I can't tell you how awesome it would be if I we could do it!

One more thing. I'm a BAMA fan.........would they even let me into the "Volunteer State"??? :grin:

Well, NY hunter......that's something that you need to make happen in the future..........life is about relationships with others.....family....and friends.....we all only assume there is tomorrow.........Hopefully you'll be able to get a trip in soon........

As for being a Bama fan.....well, we love our Vols here........but if I couldn't be from here, I would pick Alabama..........we'll let you in, but only on a loosing year! :-D

Just looked into this forum subject. I'm about 2 hours from Big South Fork. Correct me if I am wrong but I think our hog season is open year round. (Knox News Sentinel, Sunday October 30, section D page 8.) That page tells the story of a 520 pound hog killed in Sweetwater. Reguardless, I would be in for a pig hunt. I think Catoosa has a open pig hunt too. I'll have to look into it.
