I live alone, and I've been a metro police officer for almost 35 years...so there's no "safety" issues with this question. I wanted to ask if leaving a round chambered in my Marlin M336 .30-30 for long periods of time would cause the extractor spring to weaken to the point of making it non-functional...?

I wouldn't risk it for more than 50 years. :wink:
I'd be more concerned about the cartridge having salty fingerprints on it.

Have a 16.5-inch barreled Marlin M336 in .30-30 on which I replaced the "Youth" buttstock with a full-sized buttstock. It has a 5-shot magazine, and one in the chamber with the safety button engaged makes it a pretty handy car gun. I've carried it for a long time, just wasn't sure about the extractor spring constantly being under stress.
