Try the Hand Loading for Rifles and Handguns area. I can help you because I never reloaded the 6.8

Are you talking about the new 6.8 SPC?
Is this in a Contender or Encore?

If it is the 6.8 SPC I don't understand it at all.  My understanding is, it was designed for the M-16 type rifles, military and police, to allow a larger bullet for better close-range effectiveness without over-penetration.

However, I read, they used the 30 Remington cartridge which requires boltwork as well as a barrel change.  If they had went with the 6.8 TCU, which is a necked-up 223 case, only a barrel change would be necessary.

I can see it being a deer cartridge in the Condender but Im not sure it would be any better than the 30-30.

I've been considering another cartidge for my Contender carbine for my grandsons.  I am attracted to the TCU line (6, 6.5, 6.8, and 7) because they use the 223 case.

I may be missing something here.  It has happened before.

I am curious how this works out for you and what loads you settle on.

6.8 SPC Load Data

Try these sites for load data:

I like my 6.8! It shoots and kicks about like a .243.
I'd suggest not  using it for moose and especially not the "Big Bears" as
it's on the light side for game that big. Stick with deer sized game and  varmints.

After reviewing the data (thanks for the links) it looks to me like a "270 Light".

I would certaintly stay away from moose and bears with it but it oughta do good on deer and turkeys with little recoil.

Hurry up and take it hunting.  I want to know.
