Is the Mueller Gonna Take It?
« on: October 29, 2005, 05:33:28 PM »
I put a Howaby 300 Weatherby Magnumb on layaway today.  The holidays will make it impossible to get a scope for it.  I will be forced to rob a scope off of one of my other guns.

Recently I bought a Mueller Extreme 3-10x44 scope.

If anyone has this scope on a heavy kicker I'd like to know how it is holding up.

It's a tossup between the Mueller and the 4x40 Nikon that sits on my BC.  The 4x would work but I don't think it is appropriate on a long range magnumb rifle, however a fixed power would probably handle the recoil just fine.

Thanks

Don't everybody speak up at once.  :)  :-D  :)

The Mueller is currently on the 270 Tupperware Special

The 4x40 Nikon will go on the Weatherby for now.  Good simple scope for load development.

I'll get the optional reciever sight for the BC from NEF.

Zeke,

I mounted the Mueller Sport Dot 3X9X40 on my 444S and it is surely considered a heavy hitter.  I use both the Hornady Light Mag ammo and some serious handloads and have shot a couple of hundred rounds thru the rifle so far and the scope and lighted dot is holding up extremely well.

I could not tell you how it would hold up, I don't own any. I don't know anyone that has one either.  :D

I don't have that one ,  but have 2 of the 2x7's, one on a 45-70 and one on a 7mm-08. Great scopes for the money.

I've bee working 12hrs a day six days a week for weeks now.  I have put a grand total of five shots through the Tupperware Special.  Just enough to dial in the Mueller.  I bought the scope about two months ago.

The guys I work with staged a mutiny/revolt.  A graveyard shift is being added so it will ge back to 40hrs a week instead of 70.  Get to shoot all the guns I bought that haven't been fired yet.

Unless I win the lottery, the Nikon is going on the Magnumb.  It held up to the BC just fine.

Well, I don't own a Meuller yet, but I hear great things about them.
Only concern I see too, is the eye relief of the Meuller on a rifle chambered with such a caliber as a 300Wby.

I would think a 45-70 would have more recoil than a 300..........

Depending on the load, most factory 45-70 loads with the exception of the Buffalo Bore or Garrett loads, are going to be less than or close to the .300Wby. Either way, eye relief for field position shooting would be a concern.

Mine is mounted on my 835 Ultimag, it doesn't get shot much, thank you very much, 2¼oz-3½" turkey loads as 60-70lbs recoil get your attention real quick!!! A great scope, though, figured I'd get more use out of it on the turkey gun than the .30-30 Handi.

The prospect of a long range big magnumb was too much to resist.  I robbed the rings, mounts and the Mueller 3.5x10x44 from the Tupperware Special and put it all on the Howaby.  Looks pretty good.  Just like it belongs there.
