New Remington Muzzle Loader??
« on: November 02, 2005, 02:40:42 PM »
I recieved a call tonight from a friend who was on his weekly grocery trip to Wally World with the wife. Well she was grocery shopping and he hit the sporting goods as usual. He told me he was holding a new Remington Genesis rifle? How did this one slip by me. It has a cam action... I guess something along the lines of an Omega or a Revolution? Remington's web site is down for an upgarde. He thought it was kind of a neat and good feeling rifle. Anyone know what I'm talking about or did I miss a post on this.
Thanks,
Stan

Well here is what I have found out. There nothing on the website or in the new downloadable catalog. So a call to Remington on the toll free line clarifed some things.
Remington in fact does have a Genesis 50 cal. muzzloader out. The  woman on the phone was quick to answer the question. A few have gone out on a limited run. Full producton on these will not start until the beginning of 2006 and will be readily available in spring of 2006. There hasn't been much maketing on this. We were told a few things in marketing have to ironed out since this is an import. The rifle did in fact have Reminton Arms Co. Illion, NY stamped on it. The price start at around $285.00 for the blue/black synthetic up to $500.00 and someting for the laminated thumbhole / stainless version. I misunderstood him and it is not like an Omega but has an exposed hammer and is primed from the side somehow. I haven't seen it, so I don't quite understand. My friend did go and find a magazine with some information but the writer did not have one in hand at the time of the writing.
If you would like to see one of these you can make a trip to the Wal-Mart in Grafton, VA. Somebody special ordered this one and did not pick it up. Our season starts tomorrow so who know what will be left. He also saw the different variations in the Wal-mart special order catalog.
Well that is what I have learned, if any body else may have seen one or heard of this, maybe I can learn more about it.

Sounds interesting, but I am not paying $285 for an Import. I don`t like the trend I am seeing here from the US manufacturers going with more and more Imports in their line. For $285, I can get an awsome T/C or NEF, almost 2 NEF Sidekicks for that much. Regards-Jack.

I have now seen the write up on the Genesis muzzleloader in Whitetail Hunting Stratagies magazine. There is also a couple photos. It is an import from Remington's newest division, ISP. (International Sporting Products) It does suck that manufacturers are going overseas more and more.
This new rifle is what Remington calls actionless. It uses what they call a camming breech known as a TBD. Don't know what TBD stands for, but the TBD swings up and away from the end of the barrel. Simply put in your 209 primer in the end of the breech plug and swing the TBD down in the closed position. Pull the hammer back and fire. The firing pin is in the TBD and can be easily removed for cleaning. There is also a cross bolt safety on this hammer gun.
The barrel is 28" long since there is no receiver and only the solid steal 1" thick TBD is behind the barrel. Twist is 1-in-28. The breech plug is easily accessable when the TBD is open. The stock is one piece and it is said to have rigid bedding block. Comes with Williams fiber optic sights and is drilled and tapped for scope mounts.
Looks like a simple efficient rifle that would be great for hunting and easy to maintain. I guess we will here some real life reports on this one next year.
See ya,
Stan
