Just called Savage - Great service
« on: November 03, 2005, 08:43:09 AM »
Just got off the phone with Savage Arms service dept. Have a problem
with the bolt not wanting to pick up the second round from the clip (bolt face will just slide over top of second round unless I push up on back of clip). I explained the problem to the woman at customer service and she is going to send me out a new clip to try. No questions asked and no expense on my part.
Great Service and Great People.... I hope this fixes my problem.

It does sound like Savage is interested in doing business doesn't it?

I was running some 22-250 above max load and didn't keep in mind that hotter weather would effect the pressure    Luckly the bolt and gas redirection system worked as it should, thus I still have my face.

I called Savage to order new parts, the lady in Customer Service asked me to expain my problem.  I told the truth and said that I would be glad to pay for the parts as it was my fault.  She wouldn't hear of it and sent me a bolt rebuild kit free of charge!  With the request to lower my loads...

I have attached that piece of brass to my bench as a reminder of what can happen if you are inattentive.

You have to hand it to Coburn - he surely has listened to his customers and is implementing changes we are aksing for.   Savage customer service was the pits a couple of years ago.

I am really impressed with the changes Savage is making - the Accutrigger, the new right bolt - left port action, the Stevens 200, the new Classic, Accutrigger in rimfire. Going to miss the Striker and Safari Express but I think they are going the right way.

I had this problem on my 30-06 I bought used a few years ago.  I discovered that the housing the magazine slides up into was not connected to the receiver properly.  on the underside of the receiver there are two machined slots at either end of the opening where the cartridge feeds through the receiver from the magazine.

There is a little "foot" or tang on the ends of the housing that have to snap intop these slots.  It takes a little muscle to get it.  If your mag is not flush with the bottom of your stock that is most likely the cause.  You have to pull the stock off to find out, but be careful of the little button for the mag release and the springs and levers (older models).  Hope this helps some.

Handi - Thanks for the info. Will check that. If I remember correctly,
the housing that the clip slides into is a little loose and does move
around somewhat. Will check and see if its connected properly.
Thanks again
