If you are out on a plains game hunt and a dangerous game shows up.
Is it legal to hunt, say a buffalo or lion, if trophy fees are paid extra or is it not legal?

Plain game hunt question??

It's hard to answer that queston when you are asking about Africa and not a country. There are 63 countries with 63 different sets of laws.

In most countries you would be able to shoot that dangerous game by paying the trophy fee. However the daily fee for dangerous game has some minimums. So you might get tagged with the trophy fee and the conversion of all the daily fees to dangerous game levels. Which in Tanzania ate about 1000 bucks a day or more and in Zimbabwe 600-800 bucks a day. You cannot get something for nothing. If you want to shoot dangerous game then you have to state that up front. Another consideration is that in some countries PH's have a Plains game certification or a bdangerous game certification. by stating up front what you want your going to have a PH which can legally persue those species. If you only have a plains game PH not certified for DG then he would only shoot in self defense not hunt them.

Did this come across ok or just make it more confusing?

JJ,

"If you want to shoot dangerous game then you have to state that up front. "

No that will come in due time and up front.  When I was out west, quite a while ago now, hunting, mule deer and antelope, my guide offered me his tag on an elk if it showed, and it did.  I didn't think this was legal or ethical and if I knew it up front I wouldn't have booked with him.  Needless to say I didn't and I reported him.  I am planing for a plains game hunt in hopefully in 2007.  The particulars are in my order for your book.  I am glad and thank you for being upfront an honest.

Thank you,
