Tracks in the Musquito Flats.
« on: November 10, 2005, 08:34:09 AM »
Someone took a SUSV and went from the Tayler highway out into the Musquito Flats.  This is a Caribou calving area and has a vehicle weight restriction for that area.  The tracks are in a very wet area, and go for miles.  I can't remember if they said the tracks went for 30 or 70 miles.  There has been several reports of them shooting from the vehicle also.  Last night at the Fairbanks advisory commitee meeting Fish and Game tried to get us to back the creation of a Controlled Use Area, for the Mosquito Flats.  We declined, but I think they will approch other area commitees.  They seemed real disappointed when we did not support their idea.  My view is that we have too many Controlled Use areas already.  What we need here is for DNR to enforce their regulations on vehicle use and weight restrictions.

It was reported that the vehicle came up from Valdez on a lowboy.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yes.  I head the same thing about 2-3 weeks ago about the same rig in an area.  One of the native corps complained because it was on their land and left huge tracks.  And again, the people were seen shooting from the rig.

This leaves a bad mark on all hunters as we are usually all placed into the same group and the bad ones never sorted out of the good group.

There are a couple of those rigs down here but I don't know the owner of this one.  Sad!
