your best 30-30 load?
« on: November 06, 2005, 12:50:14 AM »
I loaded up a bunch of 30-30 for the newest handi last week It was 38.0 grains of H380 with a winchester 150-grain power point bullet....at 65 yards it put 3 shots into .665 inches....no 100-yard results yet....but what have you all found for a good hunting load?....varmint load?......thinking of getting another one and scoping it for woodchucks this spring....along with a 22 hornet..... :D

hey guys!, thanks for the suggestions....I am thinking of getting one or two more handis in 30-30 alone and scoping them....but regardless, was going to play around with 110-130 grain bullet loads this winter after our last week of muzzleloading deer season closes december 16th....we have a ton of coyotes in maine now and woodchucks will be out early in the spring....the 30-30 is my new favorite handi...love it!.....

Hey Andrew, check out some of the new spitzer style bullets for the 30-30, Hornady is making them in special leveraction ammo that is safe for tubular magizines, They should work out great for those coy-dogs!!! Also check your PM's, I responded to a PM from you a while ago but it is still in my outbox, I guess you have not read my response to you yet. By the way, Myself and a couple of buddies from Millinocket have been using Sportster's in .22 Mag for our Maine coyote guns recently, 1" groups at 100 yards (depending on who's shooting!!), plenty good for those old coyotes....<><....

i like the max load of 748 powder topped with a .308win hornady balistic tip 150 grain
will shoot abt a two inch group at 300 yards using a marbles tang sight on my buffalo bill commemorative winchester 94 loaded one at a time thru the top
would probably make a good load for a single shot
