rules about cowboy shoots and nra shoots with the 45-70 bc
« on: November 09, 2005, 02:08:03 AM »
As of resently (2 days ago), I was told most that the Nra and most of the cowboy shoots don't allow the use of the BC for the shoots, they are allowing only original guns or reproductions, whats up with this In my mind I thought the buffalo classic was in  that era or am I just confused, I'm really not concerned about the Period Corrrect stuff, but if I wanted to shoot in a match would I be disqualified from its use, havent bought one as of yet but leaning toward one because of simlpisity and price, and it other qualityies.  kjg

Who ever told you about the Cowboy matches is wrong.  The Buffalo Classic 45-70 and the Target Model 38-55 are allowed in CAS and or SASS matches... but with the NRA Matchs they are right.  The Buffalo Classic is not allowed at ANY NRA BPCR Match no matter what you do or say.  You are not going to be able to shoot side by side with a Sharps, Rolling Block, Ballard etc at any NRA sanctioned match.

That's the rules of the game.

Simply because the the Wesson and Harrington 1871 Buffalo Classic 45-70 is not period correct[/i] for the day.  I argued with John King from King Gun Works 406-755-5352 in Kila, Mt.. just down the road from me.  That the Buffalo Classic does look period correct for a 1884 Wurfflein Breech Loading Rifle, and we even went into the Single Shot Rifles of the World book to prove it to him.

There are minor differances between the two.  Where the hinge release is and no tang for the Buffalo Classic.  H&R would do well in listening to BPCR Shooters here in changing the receaver a bit, and placing a tang on the 45-70 Buffalo Classic, as well as the 38-55 Target model.  I believe a true Frank Wesson design had a tang on his rifles.  And since it was Frank Wesson that incorperated with Gilbert Harrington that started the whole works prior to 1875 when Frank Wesson sold his interest to William Richardson, creating the Harrington & Richardson Arms Company which is the same H&R of today.

If H&R 1871 would put tangs on these fine rifles, and get rid of the plastic hinge spacers and plastic trigger guards, relacing them with all case colored metal......

...... I believe they wouldn't be able to make enough of them.
