Model 7600 in 30-30, Think Remington will make one?
« on: November 06, 2005, 06:35:27 AM »
Hi:

With the New Hornady pointed ammo for the 30-30 coming out , it got me thinking. Would Remington make the Model 7600 in the 30-30? With pointed ammo, the Model 7600 in 30-30 Winchester would be a good combination. How do we get Remington to make the Model 7600 in the 30-30 Winchester?

Thanks,

It is very doubtful that Remington would ever do this.  The rimmed cases are problematic in feeding from a staggered feed magazine - you don't see rimmed cases in most bolt action lines for this reason.  The issue was "solved" in the past by the use of slanted magazines (Siamese M98), single stack magazines (M788), or by training (as with the SMLE).  None of these are possible with the M7600.  Besides, Remington's own Managed Recoil .308 ammunition is close to the new .30-30 performance, why would they want to compete with their own products?

Remington has the 7600 in the .35 Rem.  Isn't that a rimmed case?

The .35 Whelen uses the same case as the 30/06.  There has never been a 7600 using a rimmed case that I can remember.

.223, .243, .257 Roberts, .270, .280 (7MM Express Remington, .308, 30/06, .35 Whelen.

Did I miss any?

No, the .35 Remington is rimless and BTW is not based on any existing case.  No rimmed M7600 chamberings ever came from the factory.

Note that the .35 Remington has been chambered in special-run M7600s.

You could buy a 30-06 and shoot the new managed recoil loads from Fed. or Rem. and now you have a 30-30. :D
