beaver dispersal and family groups?
« on: November 12, 2005, 02:17:49 PM »
i am planning on trapping for beaver this season and the place that i am going to trap them i have seen some sign but not alot!  tonight i was talking with a fellow that has been duck hunting on this section of creek that i am planning on beaver trapping and he has seen some beaver!  but has not seen any large ones the way it was put to me was there tails are bigger than there  bodys!    i have no beaver trapping experience  but i do know beaver get alot larger than what was described.  what i am wanting to know should there be beavers still that small this time of yr. and if so would they be out on there own or will they still be with there parents.  like i said i do not know anything about beaver dispersal and family makeup!

As far as bvrs with tails bigger than thier  bodys, i dont believe  that could be. This time of year  unless a very late litter, the bvrs will be about 15  #s .  Make some castor sets and  get yr skinning knives sharpened.  I just took two   large bvrs out a section of river where  there  wasnt any sign at all except for some small cleaned off  pencil sized  wood.   Good Luck...

A female beaver, has those young ones born this year and those born last year --still with her.If young beaver are being seen--ma isn't to far away.
If they are seeing animals with tails longer than their body-----they ain't beaver.Maybe this guy didn't know a muskrat when he saw one.
