45lc / 410 barrel
« on: November 24, 2005, 02:09:56 PM »
If the 45lc / 410 barrel is a smooth bore with a chamber long enough to shoot a 410 shell why not just get a 410 full choke barrel and cut it down .

The price difference between them is $ 47.00 , You could get a second shotgun barrel .

Is their a difference in the heat treating of the barrels ?

The 45/410 barrel is rifled with a screw in choke tube...

Tim --- Didn't read far enough to see that it had a rifled barrel . What would the rifled barrel do to a shot pattern though ?

The 12 and 20 have a smooth bore slug barrel why not make a 410 .

I realize that it would not shoot the 45lc with any decent act. but what 410 slugs ?

Just thinking . :?

I don't have personal experience with it, but there have been a couple posts about shooting shot in it, apparently with the choke tube installed it shoots fine and when sights are added, they shoot 45C with the right load well, too. There's mention of a rifled .410 barrel available as an acessory barrel in one of the threads below, but I don't see it on the list, maybe it's been dropped?? :?

The button rifled grooves are only two thou. The 410 shot cups that contain the shot is a lot thicker than that. So the wad gets a spin buy still releases the shot when it leaves the barrel. With the long shot collum I don't think it will do much damage to the pattern.

Besides 410 Full choke barrels don't pattern worth a hoot anyway. So I think the rifle bore without choke will shoot a better pattern than a FC barrel.

One thing you will have to do is clean the barrel after shooting a lot of shot shells. The plastic will rub off on the grooves.

My thoughts behind asking is to make a small light weight rig for backpacking , Something that will shoot shot shells for small game , but will shoot 45lc with a heavy bullet if need be .

Maybe cut down to 18 in. barrel and chop down a tamer stock or find a pistol grip for it .
