Impressed with Bushnell service and scope.

I recently bought a bushnell 4200 8X32 scope with the intention of having a dot installed.  Bushnell will install a 1/4 min 1/2 min or mill dot for $55 by check.

The web site indicates the scope will be returned in about 6 weeks.  Mine was back 10 days after shipping.

I received a post card indicating it was receivved and giving a repair number which would allow you to check the status of the "repair".  On logging on to this site it appeared that they anticipated $10 to ship it back to me.  I was going to call them and ask them what to do- but the scope came back before I got around to it.  I do not know if it made a difference- but I had sent in a copy of the web site where it mentions the $55- but not shipping.  I later found another part of the web site which talked about $10 for shipping for repairs.

I have been pleased with the scope.  Got it back on a Friday, mounted and sighted in on Satuday and shot a 36 with my Hunter gun on Sunday!

I noted that the parallax adjustment has marks for 40, 60, 77 and 100 meters, as well as the correct ones for Air Rifle Silhouette.   I had earlier heard good things about the scope- but do not recall this.  Someone in their organization is paying attention to us!   On my scope the settings for Rimfire are right on at about 45 to 50 degrees.

I called and asked if they could provide any other size of dot.  They do not- and the dot size listed are all at the maximum magnification.  On my scope when set on 8X the dot subtension is 2 MOA.  I prefer the higher magnification so this is fine with me.  The 1/4 min dot  would be 1 MOA at 8X.  

I asked about the mil dot size and spacing.  I was eventually told the spacing was 3.6 MOA at 12X, and the dot size was 1/4 MOA- though this was said with some hesitance.  The person I was talking with was looking things up- and intially had though the dot subtension got smaller as the magnification decreased.  To his credit he asked that I say on the phone while he double checked that- and then indicated he had been incorrect.  In what he was reading it did corrently note that the dot size itself did not change- but the size of what was viewed by the scope did.

How much did the 8-32 set you back? Are they 1/4 MOA or 1/8 MOA adjustments?

I went to a Cabelas to buy one and the price at the display counter was $499.  When I went to buy it it rang up at $529.  I noted that this was not the price displayed, they went back and confirmed this,and sold it to me for $499  :grin:

This scope sounds like what I am looking for, with the distances marked on the ring and all the good feedback it is getting. What is the  Bushnell model # off the box?

Click on the "Tech Talk" on the upper right, then scroll to the bottom of the screen for information on the custom reticle program.

One thing I have noted is that the dot may be just a bit over 1/2 MOA.  I sight in using graph paper I have printed out with a 1/4 MOA grid.  Based on casual observattion I would guess 9/16 MOA.  This may be related to a visual illusion, and I will confess I have not paid that much attention to it.

Note that you can get 1.4 and 1/2 min dots on a varitey of scopes- including 6 x 24 and 4X16 variables.  I prefer higher magnifications and am happy with the 32X.  If I turn it to 16X I have a 1 MOA dot.

Dave Imas has a good point about shopping around.  I went through Cabelas as I had enough "points" with their card to cover almost all the cost.  The final incentive was an activation of a "cash card" for $150 if I spent $500.  Did not matter if most of what I "spent" was Cabelas points.
Assuming I spend the $150 on things I would have bought anyway  :wink:  my net cost for the scope and having reticle installed comes out to about $0.  Sometimes things seem to come out right!  :grin:

Eeleater, thanks for the reply and info.  This scope should do what I need-  hunter rifle silhouette during the summer and indoor 50 ft. NYS sporter rifle (postal league) during the winter.
