Yes, that is a good observation & these reasons are why this cartridge is
getting more popular by the day.
Like yourself, the short action is not a big deal, but another approach is
a gun like the Coyote Lite. You would have a 24" rifle that is just a little
longer that a regular 270 (1-1/2") with a good deal more performance.
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.

Thank you Kombi and Nomo, your points bring home a couple of the positive attributes of the .270WSM.  One more point I would make, is that in the .270WSM, one can achieve full 270 Win. performance, but at even lower pressures, so brass lasts longer, easier on the rifle and easier on the shooter.  The .270WSM was an excellent solution to my long given up on desire for a .270 Redding custom rifle.  With 3 boys to provide for I couldn't justify the expense of having a short action .270 built to launch 130 gr bullets at 2800 fps with negligible recoil.  With the Walmart Super Shadow in .270WSM, and handloads, I accomplish it easily with the bonus of having the potential to approach 7mm Remington Magnum ballistics (150 gr bullet at over 3100 fps).  All available in a rifle that cost less than $400.  (Don't get excited Captain Obvious, I said approach a 7 Mag not exceed).
And for someone who is going to hunt deer and maybe an occasional elk (haven't gone yet, maybe next year, which I say pretty much every year), I can't imagine a better cartridge/rifle for someone like me.

I believe the reason the 270 is winning thg the WSM popularity race is quite simple. Fans of 30 cal and 7mm have plenty to chose from. Where us 270 fans have just the 270 win and if your willing to shell out the 270 weatherby unless your a lefty like me then your stuck just with the standard cartridge. Can't wait to start loading and shooting mine.

Hello all,
I went to the Gander Mt. in Utica NY this week and looking at the ammo and rifle choices, the WSMs are here to stay!! They had onlyone box of 280 Rem and 7 different choices in 7mm WSM. Granted there were plenty of 7mm Rem mag loads but it seems the short Mags are selling. The Gun clerk said that they sell more 270 WSM then regular 270s and 300 WSM outsell 300 Win Mags 3 to 1! The 7mm WSM is outselling the 280 far and away.   Whether we like them or not, they are here to stay!!
                                                Tight groups,
                                                                    Anthony
