I had purchased a 414 SuperMag barrel from Ed awhile back. When I first shot it ,the post that are inserted into the milled slots on the barrel that allows the forearm to attach became loose and the shots sprayed all over the target. I looked it over and decided it wasn't sometime I wanted to mess with, so I mailed it to T/C and in a weeks time it was back in my hands. They had reset it by peening with a punch. The job looked satisfactory, so I hadn't played much with it. I had decided it was the barrel I was going to hunt with this year..so I drug it out and worked up some loads..fired nine times (3 41 Mag rounds and 6 414 SM rounds)and the sucker sheared right out again.
I had read before about folks tighting the forearm screws too tight and pulling them out that way, but I use the same forearm and screws on a 7-30 barrel and they work just fine. I think the recoil just got to it.
Now it will cost another $8.00 to ship the thing and the wait is always fun..
Anyone ever had the same problem? I wonder if they make a larger post so the milled slot could be milled larger? oh well, maybe they well just send a new barrel, even though this one has around 25 rounds shot through it!
