Anyone got a 6.5x55 Swede?
« on: February 28, 2003, 09:42:01 AM »
I just took possession of a 6.5x55 Swede barrel for my Encore and was wondering if anyone out there has real world experince with it in a Contender or Encore.  I was going to get a .260 Rem. but this came along so I bought it.  The barrel is  15 3/4"  and I would like to use Nosler 120 gr. BT's in it, if I they will group, started out around 2700 or so.  How much difference can there be in this and the .260 Rem. or the 6.5 JDJ.  Enlighten me. :P

:D I've got one in a Ruger and the 120gr. bt works great. I load 37.5 grs of AA#2200 with the 120gr bt, at around 2750fps. Have taken a lot of deer with this round, and none walked away, dropped on the spot. Rick..

I have one in a VVCG 14" tube. When loaded with 120gr ballistic tips and H4895 and I do my part it will shoot dime size groups at a hundred yards.
I also recently traded a factory 30-06 to Edstcs for a factory 260rem in a 15" tube. I have not yet had a chance to play with this one.......come on spring and warmer weather!!!!

I've got a Sako L691 that loves the 120/140 grain Barnes XLCs over RL19.  I won't post the load cuz it's a bit hot compared to most manuals, but it's what Barnes recommends.  It's more than you need in a pistol barrel!  I think you'll like the "Swede", I've enjoyed mine.  Nice mild mannered cartridge that gets the job done.

for all practical purposes the 6.5 swede and the 260 Rem are twins. If I recall from Ken Water's book, the swede holds a tiny bit more case capacity, so you can use swede data for the 260 in all but max loads. I have hunted with the 260 in a 24" Encore for the last two deer seasons and have taken 4 with it. I love the way it shoots and virtually no recoil.
I think you'll like the swede.
