sound suppressors for SS 243 - thoughts anyone?
« on: November 11, 2005, 08:32:57 PM »
Can anyone recommend how to go about getting a sound suppressor made for my SS 243? Who can do it, how much etc.

Does anyone have one already and do they improve accuracy?

Welcome in a quiet world.
First, suppressors have some legal concern here and there. You may already aware of this part of the problem.

In my little country, they are legal for "range" use, no hunting and tactical use is an other subject.

For all greater than 22lr and 22H, i choose  BR-Tuote's products:

 http://www.soundmoderators.co.uk/techinfo.htm

Own already a 30-30 next will be a 45-70  both with a BR-T8.
They cost me about $350 US (Euro conversion).

You may find this brand in your country,
 http://www.reloaders.co.nz/index.html
but the most important part is the smith that will do the work, accuracy rely on his work.

Suppressors (good one) help the shooter.
+ They didn't decrease accuracy, just move POI.
+ They increase shooter's concentration, no sound and no blast to "fear".
+ They are also efficient recoil suppressor, 50% or more.
= Group size shrink !.

I prefer, removable suppressor.
+ Work as well, if not better than integrated/integral one.
+ Rifle may recover original design when needed.
- Sighting is different with or without.

None of my rifles didn't show threads on the muzzle. When i look at a new one, one of the very first question is "could a suppressor be fitted ?".

Note that a suppressor on a .243 will not make it silent like in the movies.  The bullet is still supersonic and it will make a sharp crack as it goes by.  The only way to make a firearm completely silent is to use subsonic ammunition.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll see "choose product".  I live about 15 minutes from their shop.  Their suppressors are very quiet, giving more of a thump instead of a bang.  The .22SSS lr. rounds(10/22 heavy bullet subsonic snipers) are VERY quiet.  Supersonic centerfire is still quite loud -i.e. you still want earplugs if you're the one shooting.  Muzzle blast is tamed a lot, but not what you'll see on TV.

They are all legal, and with the necessary permits are not cheap.

I'd be careful telling everyone they are legal, they aren't everywhere!!!

I do believe they are legal in New Zealand.

And I think one of those Nordic countries prefers you to have one for hunting.

Laws are different..  Even among our 50 lil states.

NO NO!!
with my rectum puckered.

They are not legal EVERYWHERE!!

I sometimes forget that this is a GLOBAL message board.

Check your local laws to determine legality.  Lauer's will help you with this if needed.  They're good folks.
