accuracy to expect?
« on: November 12, 2005, 06:39:24 AM »
From a Remington 700 VLS in .243, what accuracy would you expect? With factory loads that it likes, and with a fine tuned handload?  I also am planning on replacing the factory laminated stock with a H.S. stynthetic stock that has the aluminum bedding block.  Mainly for looks because im not to fond of the look of the laminated stock. But its the only Remington Varmint Rifle that comes in .243. Will replacing the stock change the accuracy? If so, will it change for the better or worse? Thanks,

i have two remingtons and my .223 is very accurate. i havent gotten to shoot a group with my .243 yet but i see no reason why your gun shouldnt be accurate.

as for changing the stock...i wouldnt do anything until you shoot it to see what it does. you may not wanna take it off if it shoots good.

I have a Remington VLS in 6mm Rem. and am quite satisfied with it.  It prints 5 shot groups (100yds) at .5" which is about what I expect.  It's a heavy rascal though.  I do like the laminated stock, quite attractive.  My most recent Remington is a different story, a Remington 700BDL in .25-06 that doesn't group worth a hoot.  I guess one of their bean counters or lawyers must have made it.   In any event it's caused me to switch over to CZ until Remington gets their act together.  Best wishes.

Never owned a Remington varmint rifle yet that wouldn't do 1/2" at 100 yards with loads it likes whether factory or hand loads. Not all loads will do as well but most will stay under an inch if half way decent. Not uncommon for the rifle to be capable of 1/4" or under IF the shooter is capable.
