Has Wal-Mart in the US stopped carrying Federal ammo?
« on: November 11, 2005, 08:38:34 PM »
Hi guys,

Just wondering if my fellow shooters in the USA are having to contend with the above "problem" as Wal-Mart Canada seems to have stopped carrying Federal ammo, including those great .36 gr JHP Federal Bulk Packs of .22LR as well as the 100 round "promotional" packs of 12ga shotgun shells that I used to use for trap shooting. As it stands right now, all the Wal-Marts I've checked here in Newfoundland, Canada are only carrying Winchester and some Remington. Unfortunately, my guns don't seem to like the Winchester Dynapoints, Xperts or Wildcats... Another Canadian chain store, Canadian Tire, however, seems to be stocking the same Federal rimfire packs, only with 25 less rounds, in new packaging and calling them Federal Champion. I was wondering if this was only in Canada or did the US based Wal-Marts do the same thing? Its a pain, because almost all my .22s seem to like the Federal best, especially for the price!

That's really weird. The manager of the sporting goods dept. at my local Wal-Mart said that their contract with Federal had expired and hadn't been renewed. Pain in the butt, because I absolutely loved the Federal Bulk packs! Guess because Wal-Mart Canada and Wal-Mart USA are two technically separate corporations you guys get to enjoy your Federal ammo still! Ticks me off though! Seems like everything is being made in China these days, I wonder how long before the ammo will be too? :x

Here in Western Washington Wal-mart don't sell the Bulk packs anymore. Federal Bulk pack 36 grain are one of the only things that works well in all my guns.

Thats funny.  I've read other shooters posts about not being able to find Winchester dynapoints here in the states.  Walmarts seem to no longer carry them and lots of folks want them.  By the way, In the Atlanta Metro area,  Walmarts seem to have plenty of the Federal Bulk Ammo in copperwashed 36gr bullet hp.  Boxes of 550 @ $8.85.
Just bought a box so will have to try it in my rifles.

A few months back the local wal-mart stopped carrying the CCI standard velocity, which had me bummed, because my model 41 really likes this brand. Since they didn't have the CCI, I decided to try the 550 bulk pack of the Federal copper washed 22's and found them to be pretty good in all my 22's, just not as good as the CCI in the model 41. So I started buying them. Sure enough, last week I stopped to pick up another box and now the don't carry them, but the clerk tells me thay are carrying a bulk pack of Federal match ammo. What the heck, I'm already there and figure I'd give them a try. Went out yesterday and was most impressed. They are  as accurate in the 41 as the CCI, and they were also very accurate in my K22. No feeding or ejection problems with the 41, which I have experienced even with some of the more expensive brands of match ammo. I think they were around 8 or 9 bucks for a box of 325, which is still about five bucks cheaper than 300 rounds of the CCI standard velocity.  If I recall corectly the were called Bulk Auto Match. I highly recommend them. In fact next payday I expect to be buying another couple of boxes. Oh, and by the way, I went to another Wal-Mart a few miles away and was relieved to find they still carried the 550 round bulk pack.

Federal had a redesign of their rimfire ammo part numbers and boxes. They stopped making some of the ammo and just changed part numbers on others and put them into a new box. The ammo mentioned above, Federal Automatch, is available locally at Wal-Mart and has been shooting very well for me in several different guns. It's about $10 or so for the 325-count bulk pack.

Here in West Texas, the Walmarts still have Federal bulk and Automatch. I was just in there tonight loading up for the coming week. I haven't seen Dynapoints in the locals ones. A few years back they had more selection, but their ammo inventory has been really wierd lately. It seems that they're changing around some brands. They're really heavy on WWB in all calibers lately, and not stocking other brands much, if at all. Yet they rarely have Winchester .22's.

:D Morn'in folks,

Just in to my local Wally World this past week and they do have a bunch of the bulk boxed Federial ammo on the shelf.

As you may or may not know, there has been a bunch changes in the shoot'in supply world of late.  Good or bad, time will tell.

Speer and Federial are part of the same company now - not sure what other changes/buy outs have been made - but there is a shuffle going on at Speer and Federial.

I guess the thing that is the most disturbing about the shoot'in supplies on the shelf at Wally World, IS that it is decreasing.

They were the best source in Moscow, Ideeeeeeho and local area, to pick up powder for reloading. I ask why they didn't have the powders they had carried and the answer was that they weren't allowed to order them any longer.

I pointed to the empty shelf and said, "they must be selling," to which he said "yes."  However, it doesn't seem to make a difference to the button pushers.

Anyway, they do still have the Federial 22s at this point.

Keep em coming! 8)  8)

Wow they sold powder there? If only I could have been so lucky. Ours has never had any reloading supplies, and very few gun related items in general. This city is going very anti-gun though. Sad, cuz it's still Texas!

:D Goooood morn'in all,

Yep, Wally World had powder, primers, bullets, dies, brass etc. and about as good a prices as we could find.

Sorry to say that looks like it will change.

This area still retains a good bit of rural attitude, and would have a lot more if it wasn't steadly being distroyed by the likes of Washington State University (Wazzu) and University of Idaho.

With the liberial arts thrusts and the decrease in agricultural studies and people, the liberial element is pushing harder and harder for their "Glorious Utopia" with all the normal city problems which always come with it.

Thankfully I am old enough, and think I will out last them, providing the UN doesn't do us all in first.

Keep em coming! 8)

After reading this thread last week I rushed out to my local Wally World and bought the last two bricks of .22 caliber Federal they had.  I was there again today and the spot on the shelf still has the price marker but there was nothing there.  I hope this is a temporary situation but it sounds like it is not.
