I have just got a new ss huntsman. After only about the fifth shot it developed a misfire. It will still fire but only every five or six trys. The firing pin only makes a very small mark on the primer. Has anyone had a problem like this.

I am new to this forum and have no experience here, but a few questions immediatly came to mind.  Is the firing pin getting full travel?  Possible crud in the receiver preventing full travel.  Did you do a thorough cleaning of the receiver before lighting her up the first time?  Is it possible that the primers are sitting too deep in the primer carrier?  Did you try a different primer carrier?  How is the head space, at the breech?  I don't know the spec for this on a ML or even if there is a spec for it on a ML.  Did you try it with just a primer and unloaded...did the primer fire?

Yeah, I know, just more questions...just thought maybe you hadn't thought of checking or trying these things.  Good Luck.

CLEM, I think Cookieman, covered it very well. I had the problem about two years ago. I had set up my Huntsman with a scope. When I would shoot, every third shot would not go off.  After a "few words with the gun" I noticed the offset hammer spur had loosened up and would slide up the hammer hitting the bell housing of the scope preventing the hammer from hitting with full force. Once I removed the hammer extension the Huntsman would fire flawlessly. When the hammer extension was reinstalled I made sure the screw was secure and it hasn't given me any more problems. :biggun:

I had the gun to a local gunsmith he cleaned it checked for broken springs and didn't find anything. I have tried different carriers, different brands of primers. The hammer fall seems to be very light. I also wondered if they assembled it with the wrong firing pin and it is to short. I called NEF about it and because I am from Canada they gave me the number of thier service centre here. I called it friday but the have closed down. I am going to call NEF back on monday and see what they will do. I don't think I should have to take a brand new gun apart and fool around with it to get it to work. Thanks for the ideas I will let you know what NEF has to say.

NEF called me back and gave me the number of thier new service centre which is here in Ontario. I mailed them the gun and had it back in a week. They said it was an adjustment. The hammer was not pushing the firing pin out far enough. I have not fired it yet but did try 10 primers and it worked fine. So I hope this is the end of my problems I don't want to here a click when I have a big buck in my cross hairs.
