need suggestions on a good illuminated reticle scope
« on: November 15, 2005, 02:02:03 PM »
Hello,
I'm looking for suggestions on a illuminated reticle scope. I'm looking for something around a 3-9x40 don't need anything more than that really, I need something that will hold up to .444 marlin recoil. and it needs to be under $200. any suggestions? I'm mainly a bushnell/weaver man. I don't care much for tascos. I'd buy a leupold but cant find a illuminated scope in my price range.  I need something good, not ncstar or any of those other gun show cheapies. I'd just get a bushnell trophy red dot but I need something with a bit of magnification. I've never owned a illuminated retcle scope before so any help would be appriciated. Also mil dot is A.O.K although i'd prefer standard duplex or 30-30 reticle
thanks for your help

Contact The Optic Zone. Bushnell Elite 3200 scopes run in your price range with the Firefly reticle. No batteries to go dead but some have complained here about the reticles being thick. Zachary has shot his best groups with a hunting rifle using the 1.5x4.5 3200 on his .375 H&H mag..

Another good choice would be the Mueller 3-9x40IGR Sport Dot...

You have a great memory Dave!  :D

Yes, I purchased an Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x scope with the FireFly Illuminated Reticle from Jon at the Optic Zone and mounted it on my Winchester M70 Stainless in ,375H&H Mag.  And YES, this gun/scope combo has given me my BEST groups of ALL the rifles that I own.  Would you believe I got some 1/8" groups at 100 yards with Plain Jane Federal 300 grain Hi-Shocks?  Yup, 1/8" inch.  And my biggest groups with these loads never got bigger than 1/4".  Dang, not even .223 or .22-250 varmint guns can shoot that well.  I must also say that I did a lot of customized work on the rifle and spent a lot of money, but still, there are $3,000 rifles out there that can't shoot that well.  Keep in mind that with 300 grain Noslers the groups open up, but they are still well under 1 inch at 100 yards.

Now, as for the scope.  The 3200 series is an excellent scope.  For me, the reticle is a little too thick for use during the day time, but in the evenings (or at night when hunting hogs) the illuminated portion is thinner and works great.

I think that this particular scope should be at the top of your list as I have personal experience with it and thus highly recommend it.

Thanks for the input fellas. I have looked at the bushnell firefly scopes and was not impressed (but thats just me). I like the lines of that mueller 3-9x40. Does anyone have any experience with it? The concept and lines of the firefly are good but the hairs are too thick for my taste.
again thank you very much guys.

I don't have the 3-9x40, but do have the 2-7x32, 3-10x44, 4-16x50 and 8.5-25x50, all with the illuminated glass reticle, great optics and at a very affordable price...
