Thanks Remington!
« on: December 13, 2005, 06:20:49 AM »
I just received an email from Remington about the new Remington 750. The article I saw said it the rifle was going to be chambered in 35 Whelen. Here is what Remington had to say:

Thank you for your question. The 750 Woodsmaster is coming out in early 2006 in a .35 whelen (27063) and .35 whelen carbine (27079), check with your local dealer on there availability, I have included the order numbers.

About darn time they made this caliber in an automatic again. I for one can't wait to get one. Now do I get a carbine or a regular rifle length?

For me there's only one answer if you're hunting whitetails in heavy cover, carbine.
Sincerely,

I am leaning towards the carbine the more I think about it. Given that the 35 is about a 250 -300 yard max cartridge, which is way farther than I'll shoot, the short barrel shouldn't hurt anything. Also the auto should soften recoil a bit I would think.

257Robt,
I think you and I have sorta had this discussion before, or commented about it in different posts, where we both noticed that on the 760's, 7600's, 742's, 7400's, the carbine barrels seemed thicker than the standard 22 inch barrels. Not only is a shorter barrel inherently stiffer to begin with, but with the carbine barrels being thicker, I think, helps accuracy a lot. I do feel the carbines are more accurate, due to the short stiff barrel. My 760 is a carbine, 30-06, with a low mounted 1.5X5 Leupold Vari XIII, I've shot more than a few whitetails with it, and you couldn't get me to part with it, and it groups bullets just as tightly as any quality bolt action.
Sincerely,
 Garry

Well thanks for nothing! After buying a 7400 rifle in 30-06, a 7600 35 Rem carbine, a 7600 35 Whelen rifle, a 7600 25-06 rifle and a 7400 280 carbine and now they come out with a 35 Whelen auto.That's I wanted in the first place. MIKE.[/b]

Sounds to me like you're in need of another rifle Mike. Hey, we all are always in need of another rifle, why should you be any different.

Hey Mike,
Same problem here. 7600's in 30-06, 2-257 Roberts, 35 Whelen and a 35 Remington carbine and all I wanted was an auto in 35 Whelen also. Your list is missing a Roberts, you should take one off my hands:-) Just kidding. I sold a whole bunch of guns and almost bought a 760 in 35 Rem to convert to 358 and I almost bought a 260 and 7mm-08; all of these from the same guy. What really hurt though is that I used most of the money to pay off some of my current college tuition. I kept some for myself, to get an Encore, but now I have to be extra careful so I'll have enough left to get this rifle. The other problem is that now I have some things I could get rid of but don't have the heart to like a mint BLR in 257 Roberts and a Ruger 44 carbine and maybe one of the 7600's in 257 Roberts which I just bought. Good God, the decisions to make!

Mike, the Roberts is in really good shape. I am so torn because it is an odd one and I wonder if my son might like it even though he is only 1, yet I need that 35 Whelen carbine also. What stinks is the BLR is the first rifle I ever wanted in a Roberts, even though I have only hunted with 2 days in 6 years of owning it,  so it has some weird emotional thing over me. The 44 was the first deer rifle I ever wanted when I was 12. A buddy had one and I really liked it, but my parents wouldn't get me one so when I found mine it kinda filled a childhood dream. Ya it is really weird, but what else can I say.

Hey Mike, this is better yet. I was checking out another forum, 24CF (SORRY), and a guy in the classifieds has a 35 Rem carbine for $400. I guess when it rains, it pours!!

I went to the Remington site, and couldn't find anything in the "New products" section about this 750 model.

Do you know of a location for this type of info?  I'm wondering if the action is significantly different from the 740/742/74/4/7400 that we're familiar with.

I'm curious as to what it looks like and how it differs with the 7400.  I'm guessing this will be the replacement to the 7400?  I'm also wondering, does this mean they may be coming out with a replacement to the 7600 in maybe 2007?

I saw it in Gun Buyers Annual 2006 magazine. It has a European look to it. Looks neat.

Just picked up the Gun 2006 Buyer's Annual. I have not read, only skimmed the article about the new Remington 750 Woodsmaster. well I'm in love. New stock with lower comb for better sight picture with iron sights, R3 recoil pad and raised cheekpiece (no help for me I shoot lefty). Best of all it is offered in 243, 308, 270 and 35 Whelen in both rifle and carbine version. List price $732.00.

It's definitely the 35 Whelen carbine for me. MIKE.

The cheek piece is on the right so it will not help but he should have no trouble with the smooth side of the stock. MIKE.

If you guys are tired of your 35s I might be interested in your carbines. I had a 7400 in 308 it was great, this new modelshould be a winner.

Dear Guys,

I know that you are all excited and all, but . .. given the poor quality of Remington products in recent years, and their really poor customer service, I wouldn't run out and buy anything new that they make (especially if its suppose to work smoothly and jam free), until at least a year after they have been out.  Let somebody else try them out, and don't rely on the big gun magazine articles (or should I say the gun manufacturers forum), as to quality and reliability.

What does everybody think they are going to do, . . make a better model 7400?  Nope, the model 750 is  going to be a "cheaper to make" model 7400.  If it jams, . . good luck on getting Remington to fix it.

I bought nine 1100's, three 7600's and one 7400 and one 572 since 2000. All but one worked fine out of the box. One 12 gauge 1100 Sporting had to be sent back and Remington turned it around in a week. MIKE.
