Palmetto Whitney

I just recieved a new .36 Whitney as made by Palmetto Arms in Italy. I can't wait to shoot it. Points like a dream and the quality is superb. Best frame casting I've seen on an Italian cap 'n ball. Timing is dead nuts on. They even blued the mainspring!!!!! Very good fitting and polish. I'll report back after I shoot it.

Wow .. that's good to hear.
I've seen a few posts that said Palmetto Arms produced low-quality arms. I was concerned because I hope to order their copy of the Colt 1855 sidehammer pocket pistol when it's introduced in a month or two.
Sounds like they have fixed any quality problems.
Incidentally, bought a Pietta copy of the 1860 Colt Army a little more than a month ago. It has amazing fit and finish. I have a Pietta copy of the Remington .36 and it's not as well made as the Uberti-made Remington .44 I also have.
Good to see that the manufacters are apparently raising their standards.
I hope to have that Colt 1855 copy in a couple of months. I'll post a report here after I've wrung it out.

The only flaws I found were in the hand and bolt, which both had casting flaws, but performance was not hindered. Timing is dead nuts on.  I benched it yesterday and the results were a nice grouping at 15 yds. , but it was about 10 in. high and possibly a few inches to the left. However, the windage could have been me as the sighting plane is abyssmal, as all cap 'n balls!  I need to either install a taller front brass bead or have a buddy mill a dovetail slot. I think the gun is a shooter and the only binding was caused by fouling on both sides of the hammer, so I relieved, i.e, polished, the sides of the hammer that enters the firing channel.
