Mice in my Battery box :(
« on: June 05, 2006, 09:59:34 AM »
Anyone have this problem,

I was cleaning the pool yesterday and the shed door was open all of the sudden my honda 450 foreman started up!!!

Nobody was in the shed and I went what the $%&*

I ran down and flipped the kill switch, took the seat off and there was a nest of mice in my battery box half of the wires have been stripped. They could have started that thing on fire and I would have lost the whole shed 4 wheeler and lawn tractor. I killed all the babies but the mom got away. Anyone run into this and does anyone do anything to prevent this?

I changed all the fluids on mine the other day. When I dropped the skid plate a family of baby mice fell out on me. I saw a bigger one shoot out of the bike as soon as I opened the garade door. I guess this was momma. There was 4 littles one in what looked like a little pile of shreds from an old blanket I had on a shelf. I didn't think much of it I just took the babies to the back of the yard and cut them loose in the woods. Now you got me thinking that theese rascalls can cause some serious damage.

I've seen electrical wires in houses bared by mice. It's a wonder more houses don't burn down because of it.   KN

I had problems, an occasionally still do, with mice in the garage.  They made their homes in the air box on the 3 wheeler, in the exhaust of the motorcycle, in boxes on the floor and on shelves they were able to climb up to.

I found they dont like playing with the traditional spring traps but the glue strip type traps work wonders. (they also work well with annoying insects as well.  My local nursery sells the larger sized rat traps, about 4"x8".  They come 2 to a pack and you just peel off the top and place them on the floor.  When the touch the peanut butter scented glue they are done.  If you want to set them free the instructions say you can use a bit of vegitable oil to get them loose.  I found a hammer on the noggin is quicker and prevents the problem from returning.
