Water level ? for Beaver trapping.
« on: November 25, 2005, 07:56:22 AM »
I have access to trap in a farmers slough area that the beaver have stopped up a horizonal drain pipe. The pipe being stopped up has increased the size of the water area 2x and made it deeper! I can unstop the pipe and lower the water level aprox 3ft. Should I trap as is now or should I unstop the pipe? The water level is now controlled by running over in the area where the pipe is located.

This is only my second yr. of trapping so all suggestion and thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Whistler

Whistler,I do not mess with the water level, till I am done trapping.I also ask all landowners and others where I trap, not to mess with the levels.
Unplugging the pipe will lower your levels, but they will also force the beavers to plug them again. This will give you huge up and down fluctuations of your water levels.Makes for harder trapping and a less efficient job.
Give me stable water levels any time.
If you need any help, let me know.
