Muzzle extension - "bloop tube" inside diameter qu
« on: November 03, 2005, 12:03:52 PM »
I am from the other side of the fence (IHMSA), but had a question someone here may be able to answer. I need to put a muzzle extension (bloop tube) on my Anschutz pistol. I know that these are used a lot in rifle silhouette, and was wondering what inside diameter works best. Is there an optimal size for accuracy ? - or, does it really matter ? Any input will be appreciated - thanks ! --- Philip Braud

I've made several boop tubes,  usually just make the outside same as the barrel diameter and then have about .100" wall thickness.   Can't tell  that it does anything for accuracy, just makes a nice sound and allows for a place to hang any barrel weights you might want to add.  I've expirmitted with closing up the front of the tube some much like a muzzle brake and this seems to help accuracy but one has to be careful because too much constriction tends to baffel the muzzle noise somewhat.

Don't forget to take the thing off and clean the inside of it once in a while with a shotgun cleaning brush and rod.  If it gets too dirty inside, powder and crap build-up, you will loose accuracy.
