DECKAPE,
What I've learned with my handloads for my BC is that 1) Even though the bore slugs at .457, it likes over sized bullets .458 to .460. It's a totally different paradigm from the handgun type cast loads I've loaded. 2) It's also particular in regard to bullet hardness. The plain based bullets I've loaded for it have to be a little softer than I'd have thought - maybe Brinell 14 or 11. I've had some that shot OK at 1700 fps but making them harder doesn't make them shoot more accurately at higher velocity. 40 gr Rx7 has been tops for decent accuracy with the Lyman 330gr hollowpoint or the Lee 405 gr HP at that hardness, and that is only if they are not sized too small. If you want to avoid finicky performance related to alloy hardness, I've found that gas checks will compensate for a multitude of imperfections. I have an NEI mould that throws a 365 gr and a 435 gr GC large meplate bullets and they both shoot very accurately with either the 40 gr Rx7 or, surprisingly to me, 31.5 grs of 5744. I got close to one minute groups with these 5744 loads the one time I shot them. The plain based bullets, so far, have not performed as well as I've seen other shooters report with the 5744, but, again, the alloy hardness has to be just right. I can't give you a lot of data on the jacketed bullets, but I suspect they'd do good over the 40 grs Rx7. I have fired some 300 gr Sierra JSPHP and they were accurate. An amount of 3031 giving an equivalent velocity would likely do good too. Varget is also a good powder for the BC if the alloy and the velocity are as I've noted.
I have a scope on my BC and it's restocked with a recoil pad. But it was accurate enough with the Williams peep that came on it. I just prefer a scope and a non-blue shoulder. Hope some of this information will be helpful to you.
