bearcat ideas lanyard ring, hammer, sights
« on: November 08, 2005, 07:59:24 AM »
I have a hankering for a bearcat stainless and i would like a lanyard ring for it, does anyone besides bowen custom make lanyard rings? they are a little bit pricey 50bucks.

also does anyone make a bisley style hammer for the bearcat? or can the original be modified?

the sights also leave something to be desired im into finding one round that works well with fixed sights and using it, but the point of aim is not always the point of impact id like to change that, would a dove tailed front sight that is drift adjustable for windage and filed down for elevation be a good solution? is there enough meat in the barrel for this

im a young guy looking for a nice long lasting (ie forever) single actoin kit/trail gun tell me what you think i know a single six is available that can have all the above done, but i like the smaller size of the bearcat.

thanks Totallycustom

I too am a lover of small, lightwt firearms and the Bearcat is one of my favorite.  The fixed sights are not usually an issue.  If one load does not shoot to the sights, another may.  I enjoy shooting Federal bulk HPs in my .22s and I tried them with the Bearcat.  It shot about 3" left and a couple inches high.  Then I tried Remington Golden HPs and they shot to POA.  So a little expermintation will usually fix the POA problems with most fixed sight revolvers.  Your idea of a dovetail front sight will fix it if that proves to be a problem though.  I think you will find the stock hammer will work very well for you.  It is patterened after the Super Blackhawk hammer and is every bit a good as a bisley style, in fact I prefer it.  If you want a cheaper fixture for your lanward, you can alway have a sling swivel stud fitted into the butt.  That would also be more in keeping with the size of the gun.  Enjoy that Bearcat!  44 Man

Just picked up my stainless bearcat last night, been dreaming of this day for a long time.  Gonna get it cleaned up and take it out for a shoot before i start in on any of my big plans. The trigger and action are much smoother than i expected and i like the hammer more than i had at first thought .  I'm still on the hunt for bearcat ideas though.
 thanks for the ideas TC

I have 2 bearcats: a blued one and a stainless one. While I am not thrilled with the sights, I was able to make make them acceptable for me by taking a file and increasing the width of the rear notch. I would still prefer sights with better definition, and adjustable, but I can live with them now.
