Info on M700 Rem in 7mm-06 Rem calibre
« on: November 20, 2005, 09:07:45 AM »
Greetings

I am always looking for information on the Legendary Model 700 in 7mm-06 Rem. Calibre.  I have one of these rifles and have known about them since I worked in a gun store here in Ontario, Canada in the mid 80's.  My serial # is A 66958XX. I understand that there are maybe 120-140 M700's in existence with the "7mm-06 Rem" calibre roll stamp. Mine was built in December 1978 as per the "X Q" date stamp on the barrel. I have yet to question Remington about the build date from the serial #.  I paid a small premium over and above what a standard calibre 700 is worth, but after only hearing some exist 20 years ago, I thought I'd better have it in my collection. Have also been in touch with another fellow in the US that also has on built in November '78. Clay Harvey, author of Popular Sporting Rifle Cartridges has seen one, knows of others and I know a fellow here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada who had one a while back. There is one on GunsAmerica for sale- $2000 US. That’s where I got the 120-140 figure.

Does anybody out there have any hard copy or word-of-mouth information on these rifles.

Thanx for now

Brad

Your 700 sounds like a very collectable rifle. I've never seen one marked like yours, but I have heard a few were made. I have a 700 BDL marked 7mm Express Remington that dates from 1979. Neither name "flew" so Remington went back to the 280 designation. By any name, it is a great cartridge.

The rifle sounds like a winner and should be worth quite a few dollars down the road a ways since I doubt Remington will ever make it a standard part of their line.  Remington makes these special runs from time to time.    A lot of time we're not even aware of it.  Best wishes.
