??... 6-hole scope mount, hole spacing?
« on: November 21, 2005, 08:14:25 PM »
:D Hi all, new to TC pistols and new here too. I must say I learned alot reading all your posts.

plan to order a custom Contender barrel in 7.62x39, and have some questions about scope mounting:
*) who makes 6-hole scope mounts for Contender?
*) what is the spacing between holes in a 6-hole? if I use a standard 4-hole base and have the barrel tap to 6-hole pattern, do I gain the option to mount the 4-hole base forward (leaving the rear two holes unused)?
*) For a 7.62x39, can I get away with using just the aluminum weaver base (4-hole)? or do I have to go to a one-piece ring set base...

  Thanks for any help!
  Have fun

You can get six hole Weaver style scope mounts from

Stratton Custom or Match Grade machine

and possibly several others....they will cost you $45 plus shipping.

The six hole mounts I have the spacing for the extra two holes is the same spacing as the four hole. So you could use any combination of front four or back four that works for you.

The aluminum four hole Weaver mount cost like less than ten bucks....if it doesn't work out you aren't out much money anyway.

Welcome guncats,

Here's some answeres to your ????

*) who makes 6-hole scope mounts for Contender?

>>>SSK, EA Brown, Stratton Custom and Match Grade machine all make 6 screw bases (I like SSK's).... Bell m and probably others offer Weaver bases modified to the 6 hole pattern.<<<

*) what is the spacing between holes in a 6-hole?
>>> Same pattern as the 4 hole mounts, just an extra set of holes moved forward<<<

*) if I use a standard 4-hole base and have the barrel tap to 6-hole pattern, do I gain the option to mount the 4-hole base forward (leaving the rear two holes unused)? >>YES<<

*) For a 7.62x39, can I get away with using just the aluminum weaver base (4-hole)? or do I have to go to a one-piece ring set base...

>>>You should be just fine with the Weaver<<<

Who you gonna have build your new barrel?

Thanks for the info, now I know what to ask for.

The barrel will be from Bullberry, SS 14.5" lightweight sporter. They told me up front it will take 4 month to build, does that mean I should add 6 more weeks just to be safe? by then the SS G2 should be out (hopefully).

I am wondering how much a G2 with a 14" lightweight barrel will weight, anybody have any ideas? the muzzle OD will be about .600". The reason I ask for a lightweight barrel is I plan to practice off-hand with it and I am already spoiled by my 223 carbon and I don't want the 7.62x39 to be too much heavier than the 223. (my 13.5" 223 setup with 3x scope mounted is about 3.5Lb)
