Hello to all,Looking at Gun Broker.com a seller has a Win 94 Trails End in 44-40 cal, made 1998.Ad says buy now for $1,595.would the price be that high if they only made a few in this caliber? I called Winchester they told me 1998 was the only year for the 44-40 ,but the person that could tell me how many were made was out for the day.. will get e-mail later. What do you all think about the price?

Jim 44-40, yes the Gunbroker price is definitely TOO high for the Winchester model 94, Trails End 44-40! Several have sold on Gunbroker, and the usual price is $375-400 TOPS. It was NOT a popular caliber; some of them had feeding problems, and the Rossi/Puma/LSI rifles in 44-40 are outselling the Winchester Trails End by FAR! The reason Winchester did not continue the rifle in production is that they were not selling well and there were a number of complaints about that particular rifle. If you want t 44-40 go with the model 92 Winchester of the clones.

Kindly,
Rifleman

Rifleman is correct.  Don't buy the Winchester.  The price is way too high.
Pick up a Puma. You won't believe how much better the action is as well as the fit and finish.  You may also want to check out the Uberti's as well.
Winchester has a bunch to learn from manufacturers in Brazil and Italy.
All are making better lever guns.
