45-410 Vs. Opossum

I had this opossum terrorizing my deck for several weeks now.
to night was a dark and stormy night, I went to take the trash out and this Opossum was sitting on my deck and moved in my direction. I quickly went back inside my house and grabbed my 10 inch contender in 45-410.
Earlier this morning I loaded up 6 round of 410 with four .350 round balls over 13.7 grs of 296 just for this critter.
Once I got the contender I went around the house and headed off the opossum. Just as I got to the deck my wife turned the outside lights on. at the sight of me the opossum went to the side of the deck and started climbing the trellis. I go with in 10 feet of him got into a safe shooting position so If i did miss the balls would hit my shed and no one Else's stuff. at the shot he fell and kicked for few seconds and stopped. Once I knew for sure he was dead I picked him up and looked all over him and could not find an exit wound but the point of impact was severe.

Well, it's a good thing you had your sling on the T\C. 'Cause if you just wounded the critter, you'd of had to flung that wepon across your back and ran into the darkness to finish the job!

Of course, the dishes would have been there when you got back...I only say that 'cause I noticed you have your dish wash'in gloves on so's you don't get your fingers all wrinkely dry and stuff from the soap. Do you use Jergens???

I also noticed it's a good thing your a crack shot 'cause if you hit that gas can you had sitt'in there, well....you could'a fried the wife's outdoor furniture.....and she would never let you live that one down!!!!

Good job! You should post yer number fer gittin rid of critters!!!!

no worries about the dishes the wife took care of them, the gloves are medical gloves. I always keep several pr. in my hunting back pack jsut for handling critters like this one, dont know if it was sick or not so why take the chance?

as for the gas can it is empty and sitting on the table so I can grab it in the morning and get a gal. on the way home so I can mow the leaves. The opossum was on the other end of the deck so if one of the balls hit it it would have the opossum shooting back at me. I was in about the same place  when I shot but he was over to the left quite a bit and 10 feet infront of me.

as for gitting rid of critters I am known around the neighborhood for this. they all call or come by when they need something like this done and the best thing is I do ti for free

I have been told they are good, but after the way the darned things look and smell when alive I can't work up much of a taste for them.

even with all that lead in it's chest he still was able to kick for a little while
The wife told me she found a nice round hole in a slat in the trellis. So I guess all the balls didn't hit him.

Just wondering how you're going to eat that trellis??? I hear that if you par boil them for about 8 hours then throw them on the grill with BBQ suace, they are mighty tasty.

I hear they taste like chicken.  :-D

At least you didn't put a bullet through the floor of your camper (long story......  :shock: )
