BAR Action Length
« on: November 15, 2005, 09:03:07 PM »
I was surprised to find when I got my Rem 760 in 35 Remington that all the 7600 and 7400s are made in the long action length.  Well that brings me to wonder if all the old BARs are the same way.  I know that the current line features a long-trak and short-trak model, but the older models made no such distinction.  Anyone know?

Thanks!

I might be wrong about this, but I believe BAR's are true short
actions, and long actions.  I know there is no way a long action
case would get ejected out of my .308 Win. chambered BAR
Stalker ejection port.

I'd always assumed that they shared the same reciever with changes internally. The receiver my 30-06 Stalker measures 8.4" long, anyone got a short version to check?

Yes I do have a 308 Win chanbered BAR stalker I can measure.
Where did you take your measurements from?

I will say that after writing the first response, I happened to have
the BAR out for a whitetail hunt, and I took a .25-06 Rem. load(built
on a .30-06 Sprg case), which I happened to have on the bench,
and the action port was not even close to accepting a loaded
round.  So I am going to stand by my first "guess", that the BAR
has two different action lengths.

I meaured from the longest point to the front. Which is the pointed rear of the reciever to where the reciever and barrel meet.

My ejection port won't accept a 30-06 cartridge either, it's only 3.2". Yours?

Here's an interestion comparison, measure the trigger assembly to see if the .308 version is longer in order to take up internal space. The 30-06 assembly is 3.5" from the lower corner of the reciever to the front. Or if you measure the whole thing it's 4.3" from the rounded rear to the front.
