Spotting scope and tri-pod
« on: November 25, 2005, 02:12:33 PM »
For shooting off a bench pistol and rifle, I want to use a scope that can sit on the bench and a stand that will hold it steady. I don't expect to do standing shooting, just at the bench or prone. Need suggestions and where to best buy it.

I have an older (10 years old) Bushnell 18-36 power spotting scope.  The optics are pretty good, but the tripod doesn't provide that good a grip when it's windy.  It's difficult to maintain a good sight picture in those conditions.  Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply. I see some "other gray beards" using a stand off the bench that has a vertical rod attached to a stand and a gizmo that attachés to the scope. they can adjust the vertical on the rod easily, prone shooters use this also but its much larger for standing shots. For 25 yd pistols I normally use Binoc's. But these neat stands may work for longer distance. I have searched most of the catalogs with no success. The Creedmore cataloge had a similar set up but very high test, and a price to match.

You might try Champion's Choice Shooters' Supply. They have weighted scope stands & one of those might be what you want.
