I know a couple of you were interested in the 357 AMP (Automag) 14" SSK Barrel and it's performance.
So I chronographed the following load:
158 gr JSP Remington, 21.5 gr WW296, Winchester LP Primer, and new Starline 44 AMP Brass reformed to 357 AMP (no factory brass available).
For reference, an 8.5" 357 AMP Automag averaged 1751 fps.
The 14" SSK Contender 357 AMP Barrel averaged 1979 fps.
This seems to rival or even exceed 357 Maximum loads in some cases (I have no experience with the 357 Maximum, but it seems really popular in T/C's).
I was surprised the 14" barrel did not increase velocity any more than it did.
For those that don't know, the 357 AMP is a 44 AMP necked down much like a 357 Bain & Davis is a 44 Mag necked down to 357.
The brass shows no signs of pressure (and this is not the max loading for 357 AMP but I wouldn't go there) and the frame opened fine.
It's also probably my best barrel being an SSK, the rest are factory T/C barrels.
This is a nice chambering, and since I was all setup for it already, this barrel is great for me.
