Ok lets talk about C&R's
« on: December 04, 2005, 06:33:51 AM »
1. What was your very first C&R purchase?

2. What was your first purchase with your C&R FFL?

3.What got you interested in military surplus guns?

My answers are;

1. Yugo model 98k 8mm mauser (preduccezi 44 captured german 98 $79)

2. Turkish '38 8mm mauser  ($39.95)

3. Cheap affordable price of the guns.  Most military ammo wasn't cheap back then and most of it was becomming scarce(8mm/7,62x54)

1. Finn M39 Mosin I found in a pawn shop
2. Spanish Mauser M1916 in original 7x57
3. Low cost per unit, and high quality.  These things were made to last forever.

The "problem" is that once you start, you can't stop...  if you like Mausers, you have to go Swede, Yugo, Turk, German, and so on.  With Mosins, you have Russian, Finn, Polish, Romanian, etc.  Then there are all the Enfields, K31's and such.  Actually, I consider my best C&R find (so far) to be a 1953 Colt Official Police revolver - not a milsurp, but a fantastic piece of machinery.

1. What was your very first C&R purchase?

First purchase of a C&R rifle, M38 Mosin-Nagant.  Actually it was a gift from my wife.  I saw one at Big 5, but I was laid off at the time.  Refinishing it and going up to the hills to shoot it kept me sane while I was off work.

2. What was your first purchase with your C&R FFL?

Wow, I had to break out my bound book to look.  That's how many guns I have bought since I got my license in early '04.
Yugo 59/66 SKS.  One of the $80 AIM shooter specials

3.What got you interested in military surplus guns?

1. Needed a light handy carbine.  The M38 Mosin fits that role.
2.  Hardcore history junkie.  Having an Enfield in my hands while the History Channel recounts D-Day is a neat thing.
3.  I buy junkers to practice my bad gunsmithing skills.
4.  I prefer old school guns to the newer CNC/Tupperware guns(although I have three of those)
5.  Milsurps are fun to shoot!

Since I got my license in 2/04 I have gotten
Five Mosins
Three Lee-Enfields
Three Mausers
One Yugo SKS

Pics
AIM shooter special No 4 Mk1.  Came in three weeks ago.

There are three milsurps in this pic:
M38 Turk Mauser.  This was a restored junker bought for $60
No1 MkIII Lee-Enfield
At the bottom, Hungarian M44 Mosin

M38 Mosin flamethrower
