Anyone use a S&W model 43?
« on: September 28, 2005, 03:09:04 PM »
I have a S&W Model 43 that I use as a trail/kit gun. I've had it for years and it's seen many thousands of rounds through it. For weight and accuracy it can't be beat. Just wondered if anyone else had one of these and what your experience has been?

I just picked up one of the early ones with a flat latch at a gun show a couple of weeks ago.  Have been wanting one for a long time.  Just got out today to shoot it.  Only problem I have with it is that it shoots too low.  Have the rear sight all the way to the top and still low.

You might try taking off the rear site and cleaning it. The micro click sometimes get stuck and doesn't fully raise it.

Just a thought.

I have been shooting my M43 since 1968.  IMHO there is nothing better as a trail gun.  You can wear it all day and it never weighs you down.  It's too bad S&W doesn't really make anything like it today.  I had a chance several years ago to buy another one in almost new condition for $395.00 and still regret not buying it.

What's a model 43?  I've hung around with Smiths my entire adult life but  don't seem to remember the 43 model number.  Could it be a J-frame kit gun in .22 mag? Just guessing.

Winman:
The M43 is a J frame gun in 22 LR.  It has an alloy frame and cylinder with 3 1/2" barrel.  The M51 is similar but has a steel cylinder and is chambered in 22 WMR.  I think they were both discontinued in the early 70s.
