Well Bog , if they were worth trapping I would be doing it in Mi. But was advised not to . There not worth trapping . I may try to get two or three to eat and tan but that will be all .

Hello fellow trappers!!! Yes my first post on graybeard and hopfully not my last! It's 55 and windy in NE Iowa today, the ice on the rivers is going fast, yep spring beaver trapping time. The problem we have is that the water was so low and little snow has the beavers spread around! Well a little exersise never hurts. Later guys
May your fur be prime.

I'm with Dan.....I may have to go try my luck on my 1 otter a year (Limit in Mi), and hope for no incidental beaver. Prices are down, and they are over trapped in my area even with the dismal prices. I for one don't want to participate in adding to the surplus of under valued goods, but to each his own.  :-)

Hey Bog,
Iv already been after them chizzel tooth critters.  Im in southeast MO and aside from a few others I have them all to myself.  Not many others chase them down here.  Only have till the end of march.

I will add that your suggestion of letting beavers lay for a day or two before skinning works great.  Like you said, most of the blood has coagulated.

Also enjoyed your article in the T&PC.

Hey Bogmaster, I'm with you, the equipment is ready to go and I'm just waiting for our 3 feet of ice to melt here in north central Wisconsin.

Yep, me and my son went out looking around today but there was a foot and a half of running water on two feet of ice. We're really itching to trap something though. I have a question for Wisconsin trappers. If I'm reading the Wisconsin regulations right are rats legal now if we catch them in a beaver trap? Earlier in the year we caught some in 220's and 330's set for beaver.

Been in the 60s here the last 3 days.Almost all the snow is gone. But I know it will still be quite a while before the ice is gone here.It will be another couple of weeks after ice out here, before it goes in the north country. I may have to follow the ice out line this year.
Traps sitting in the back of my truck are not doing me any good.
Spring beaver time can be some of the most enjoyable of all.
Heres wishing everyone a happy spring beaver season, enjoy your time in the woods and waters.   Tom
