Only as old as you feel...
« on: December 02, 2005, 12:48:40 PM »
Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly
change things.. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts
together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of
this year's incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:

The people who started college this fall across the nation were
 born in 1987.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

 They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight! Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk! a mile for a Camel",
or "de plane, Boss, de plane".

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.

McDonald's did not come in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

 Do you feel old yet?

Notice the larger type, that's for you old farts who have trouble
 reading small type.

What? You never had to cross a huge pasture on the way to school and on the way back that had a 2'000lb. Brahma Bull that used to wait on you so he could chase you both ways. Used to keep a skunk in a live trap and when you didn't want to go to school you skunked yourself so they would send you back home. Darn skunk just lays in ambush and waits for you to come past. How about the old hornets nest trick in the middle of winter setting by the pot belly stove that would clear out the whole school when the hornets thawed out. THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS. :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D  :D

Thanks brett, it reminded me of how old I am. Before the days of "TV", Hop-along Cassdy, Red Ryder, and Radio.

I cut high school to see the premier of the very first Star Wars movie.  A few years back when they re-released it my wife and I went to see it.  Looking around at the faces in the theater prior to the start of the movie it dawned on me that 95% of the audience were not even born yet when the movie was originally released.    I sure felt a little old that day.

Another time my brother and I were checking out a used record and CD store and a boy of about 12 held up a 45 single and said to his dad "Dad, what are these things??!"

Remember when the standard sound system in a new car was AM? And if you really went all out it was AM/FM with a 8 track? Big Macs were 50 cents? Sodas came in glass bottles and required a church key to open? Try explaining to a 22 year old when gas was 50 to 60 cents a gallon and a concert ticket was 6 or 7 dollars. Thats when you really feel old.
