Took it out today...After church of course. hit 4 squirrels in 2 hrs.... missed 2. Gonna have squirrel (& gravy) eggs & toast in the morning. Squirrel & dumplings for dinner. Life don't get much better than that. When you miss, just wave goodbye. Going to change front sight.....at 50 yds. it almost covers the entire squirrel. As I get older it seems like the little things of life give me the most joy.

I use to have the most fun hunting squirrels with my .45 cal Pennsylvania flintlock. I would take at least 30 seconds before I knew if I hit or missed. :grin: (luckily one hit is all it took)

Russianblood, This is the most fun I've had in a long time. The .32 is kinda' brutal on the bushytails but pulls them out of the trees good, I'll bet your .45 knocked 'em for a loop!. I agree the waiting on the smoke to clear adds to the excitement. I may never pull a modern .22 out again. This gun is about as good as having buttons on a shirt......gonna' get another one for my grandson I think. The jawjacking between shots is good too. Quality bonding time, ya' know. Jack, you won't regret it! I didn't know the .32 barrels would fit on the renegade......even better! Going to clean my .54 and pack it away in a few. ML deer season ended yesterday here in Mo. but squirrel season goes until the 1st of the year. I wish they would put ML season in front of modern rifles like they do in Oklahoma......thats awesome! My brother has 100 acres there and we have the best of times hunting with our smoke poles. Always a pack of deer but there smaller. My other brother that lives in Okieland was teasing me about coming to Okla. to shoot deer and I told him I had to shoot 3 to make a Missouri deer....that shut him up! Yes Rick, Green Mountail makes many different barrels for the Renegade and Hawken in calibers from .32 to .58 and a Smoothbore .62(20 gauge). I will get the .32 first, then a .62 later. Jack.

Track Of The Wolf has the best prices for these barrels. GM sells them direct, but at Retail. TOTW sells them much cheaper!! Jack.

Too bad the 20 gauge is a 1" barrel. I can't get it converted to fit my Lyman Great Plains Rifle. :cry:

spitpatch, I'm with you all the way on squirrels. The season goes until January 15th I believe. I don't have a code book or I'd check to make sure. I've tallied 29 this year with my 36 cal. Southern Mountain flinter and every one tasted better than the last! I didn't realize I missed squirrel hunting so much until we move back from Wyoming. It has become my hands down favorite......after black bear.

Was your acorn crop doubly abundant? Here in Phelps county we had so many it was like walking on marbles.

I tagged a doe with my 45 flint the next to the last day of the season. Only shot I had all year and grateful for it! Now it's back to squirrels!

Sharps.....The nut trees were about to break under the load this year. Can't ever remember so many. Enough black walnuts to fill a dump truck. Hickory nuts covering the yard....can't take a step, and acorns-o-plenty!It's fun watching the squirrels sneak from tree to tree and into the yard, grab a nut & go before the dogs get onto them. The're very good at it. 6 dogs don't miss much. Phelps county eh? Rolla perhaps?
